Umbral Clone

Level 8 • Illusion • Sorcerer, Wizard

Casting Time: Action

Range: 5 feet

Components: V, S, M (a living shadow trapped in a rune-engraved vial worth 1500 gp)

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 Hour

You manifest a shadowy duplicate of yourself in an unoccupied space within range. The clone looks exactly like you, but without any color. It has the same statistics and an equal amount of hit points as you have when you cast the spell. In addition, it carries shadowy versions of your equipment. Roll initiative for the shadowy clone, which has its own turns. You can control the clone on its turn. The clone can’t regain hit points and disappears when it drops to 0 hit points. You and your clone share the same magical reserves, so when the clone casts a spell or uses one of your abilities, you must expand spell slots or uses of that ability accordingly.

Additionally, the clone can use its shadowy equipment, as you would be able to use your equipment. If the clone uses a consumable item, expends a charge of an item, or does something similar, the original item in your possession is affected as if you had used it. If the shadow throws or loses an item, the shadowy version vanishes and the original item manifests in its place.

Further, you or your clone can use an action to magically switch positions with each other.

Two hooded figures stand side by side—one solid and one shadowy, wreathed in dark mist.
